PARTIAL CLOSURE OF TARA RESIDUE PLANT FOR NON-COMPLIANCE

The regional authorities have ordered the immediate paralysis of «drying and grinding» operations of «SANDACH» and spills of unidentified waste that breach the perimeter at the Tara Residue Treatment Plant in Calasparra.
The Mayoress of Calasparra, Teresa Garcia, gave a Press Conference yesterday to report that the regional Department of the Enviromment, with technicians from the department and SEPRONA, had decreed the immediate cessation of the aforementioned activities at the plant for
non-compliance.
She added that this measure was taken following an inspection carried out yesterday morning and that the cessation of these activitites would be maintained until the activity had been duly legalized or the proceedings opened were definitely resolved.

Nexonr has recently reported that neighbours, farmers and residents had complained of noxious smells and spills emanating from the plant and that these complaints had been referred to the regional Public Prosecutor by Calasparra Town Hall.
The Tara Residue Treatment Plant has always been controversial in Calasparra due to its location near the Puerto Cave and agricultural land including rice fields.
