ORANGE WEATHER WARNING FOR TORRENTIAL RAIN TODAY

The Met Office as issued an orange weather warning for torrential rain, hail and electric storms for this afternoon, May 3, in the Altiplano, North West and Vega del Segura areas, which includes Calasparra.
As much as 30 litres of rainfall per hour is expected between 12midday and 9pm.
Readers are advised to check underbuilds and drains; not to park in areas which tend to flood; not to attempt to cross flooded areas; and, if you have to drive, to cut speed in increase distancing.
The Emergency Centre in Murcia received 50 calls of assistance yesterday caused by the intensity of the storms yesterday, with hail and lightening. More than half these calls were from Caravaca where numerous cellars, underbuilds and garages were flooded. In Cehegin the local Medical Centre was flooded.
Both Caravaca and Cehegin have activated municipal emergency plans.
Intense hailstorms affected Bullas, Mula and Yecla turning the roads into rivers of ice. Some roads remain closed.
For Wednesday the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the whole day in the Vega del Segura, the Guadalentin Valley, Lorca, Aguilas, the “campo” del Cartagena and Mazarron.
Rain is also forecast for Calasparra although no warnings have yet been issued.
