Although last night in Calasparra was relatively calm, considering the dire weather warnings issued by the Met Office, all schools in the region, including Calasparra, have been closed as the Met Office issued an Orange weather warning for torrential rain, strong winds and storms.
The Met Office warns of sudden, sporadic and very localised weather conditions in the North West area of Murcia, that includes Calasparra, with more than 20 litre of rain in less an hour, hail and storms.
Drivers are warned not to take to the roads, especially for medium or long journeys where they could be trapped in isolated storm conditions.
The DANA warning continues until midnight tonight when it will start to move up to the north of Spain.
Calasparra often escapes these dire weather conditons, however, for today and tonight readers are warned to exercise extreme caution and to avoid driving, especially on minor roads and tracks, and never to attempt to drive through a flooded area.
