Readers will remember the constant reassurances from politicians that Calasparra Station would not close and the region would have a direct rail link to Madrid.
However, Calasparra station did close and with it went the direct link from Calasparra with Madrid and from today, Tuesday, there is no direct rail link from the Murcia region to Madrid due to the work on the rapid rail links, AVE and ADIF.
In order to travel to Madrid there are various options: travel by car to Orihuela or Albacete and catch the train from there; or take the Intercity from Archena to Albacete, and change for Madrid.
The work on the high speed rail is scheduled to take four years and there will be no direct rail link during this time.
