A new driving licence valid for the entire EU came into force yesterday; January 19, however, all current driving licences are valid until the current expiry date.
The new driving licences, which will be similar to those already in force, will be valid for 10 or 15 years and will replace the old type when drivers apply for a new licence.
The only change for EU residents of Spain who have lived in Spain for two years and who are therefore required to exchange their UK licences is that they will be issued with the new EU licence instead of the Spanish national licence when they apply.
