NIGHT OF THE MIGAS MAKES LOCAL HISTORY

Some 51 “peñas” (local clubs) filled the Calle Madre Carmen del Niño Jesús with heat and color when they took part in the VI edition of the Migas Competition organized during the recent fiestas for the patron saints of Calasparra and made the local history books.
This year´s traditional Night of the Migas was the most successful with the highest participation in the history of the event.
Radio Calasparra and the Charanga los Cumbancheros, street band, provided the music and the prizes were awarded by a jury made up of members of the Town Hall, the brotherhood of the saints and the new King and Queen of the Vega elected during the fiestas.
The winners were in first place, Peña “Dikiti´s;” second, Peña “los de la boda;” and third, Peña “la gorra.”
The throwing of a grain of rice and a grape were also popular with 42 participants. The winners were Adrián Ruiz de Magdalena, throwing the grape, and Juan María Santiago, throwing the grain of rice.
