The local police remind us that the new urban speed limits come into force today with fines starting from 100 euros for failing to respect them.
From today, May 11, the speed limit in the town is:
Roads with pedestrian area and traffic lane at the same level (for example Calle Lavador/Calle Mayor – 20 kph)
Roads with just one lane in each direction (for example Gran Via) 30 kph
Roads with two lanes in each direction 50kph
According to the local police the reduced speed limits aim to improve the co-existence between drivers and pedestrians; reduce traffic noise from 33% to 6%; reduce pedestrian deaths by 90%; and increase the efficiency of the security systems.
Look out for the new speed limits: fines start at 100 kph for 1kph over the speed limit!!
