NEW CORVERA AIRPORT WILL OPEN IN A FEW MONTHS

The President of the regional government of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, has confirmed that the new airport in Corvera will open within a few months because San Javier does  not have the capacity to serve the region.
He underlined that the infrastructure of the airport was already completed and that test flights were currently underway.
This is not a project which has been built in a few months, he said, it had started in 2007 and now we are in 2012.
“The airport is practically finished and minimum questions remain such as baggage handling areas amongst others.”
Valcarcel blamed the late Socialist government for “stalling” proceedings but claimed that negotiations were underway with the airport authority, AENA, to transfer the workers from San Javier to the new airport.
“San Javier airport has its own limitations,” said Valcarcel, “and has to accommodate commercial flights with military flights.
“It is not an airport which presents the answer to the interests of the Murcians some 80% of whom currently used Alicante airport. This makes a new airport in the Murcia region absolutely essential.”
