All residents of Calasparra received a warning last night from the National Warning System a few minutes before the floodgates of the Argos Dam were opened following days of heavy rainfall.
The message warned that the floodgates would be opened and advised residents not to approach the Argos river due to the potential growth of the caudal and the danger that the river would break its banks.
As a consequence the Carretera de Valentín RM- B32 was closed last night and residents the lower areas of Valentin were warned of possible flooding.
The Cuesta Blanca, the entrance to the Valentine Road from Calasparra at the traffic lights, was seriously flooded this morning.
Today, Friday, there are no weather warnings in place for the Murcia region, although Cehegin and Caravaca are still experiencing flooding in some areas and some roads in Calasparra are still closed (see yesterday´s entry for list).
The schools remain closed today and the Carnival, scheduled for this weekend, has been suspended until next weekend.
