The cabinet have approved a national State of Alarm, effective immediately, with a curfew from 11pm to 6pm:
This State of Alarm is initially for 15 days and will be approved by Congress next Tuesday.
However, the Government´s intention is to extend this State of Alarm for six months until May 9.
President Sanchez said, on National Television a few minutes ago, that experts believed a six month State of Alarm was the best way of curbing the second wave of the Covid-19 virus.
If the situation improves the State of Alarm may be repealed.
Measures under the State of Alarm to control the spread of the epidemic will be in the hands of the regional governments. They will have powers which include changing the hours of the curfew between 10pm and midnight and between 5 and 7am.
Regional Governments will also be able to limit entry and exit from their territories; confine all or parts of their regions; and limit the number of people in a social gathering, private or public.
Other measures adopted will depend on the individual regional governments.
