Thursday, October 12 is a national holiday in Spain and, as is customary, many will make a long weekend of it!!
The fiesta is a combination of «Pilar,» the patron saint of the Guardia Civil, and the Day of Hispanidad (literally Spanishness) which celebrates the discovery of South America.
Expect many shops and businesses to be closed over the three day «bridge» (puente) although bars and restaurants are likely to be open.
Anyone heading north or towards the Atlantic coast can expect some rain over the weekend while the rest of Spain is looking at a drop in temperatures.
