The new airport at Corvera will open by Christmas and, contrary to all, previous statements, will operate alongside the airport at San Javier for at least two years.
The Head of the Department of Promotion, Public Works and Land, Manuel Campos, has insisted that the new airport at Corvera will open in December and that San Javier will not close for at least two years.
The airports will operate in competition with one another although Corvera will not have any restrictions on flight times, such as night flights, which operate at San Javier, and will “offer better facilitites, claims Campos.
The unexpected announcment that San Javier will not close after all means the regional government will not have to repay the 25 million euros invested in the second runway at the airport.
As for the high speed rail link, the AVE, it should reach Murcia in the first months of 2015 as part of the intregal underground project: the first phase of which has been completed.
