MUNICIPAL FINES FOR ILLEGAL BUILDING WORKS MAY BE OUT OF TIME

Some 400 fines issued by Calasparra Town Hall for illegal building works may be prescribed, according to information received NEXOnr.
The fines, ranging between several thousand euros and as much as 60,000 euros, are sanctions for building works, renovations, swimming pools etc which have been constructed without the appropriate licences. However, many of the fines apply to construction work carried out more than four years ago and this, according to legal sources, makes them illegal and inapplicable.
The Town Hall can legally “re-open a sanction” if the building works have not been legalized but this requires a different legal procedure and the current paperwork may not be enforceable.
Anyone who receives a fine for projects that have been legalized should send a copy of the legalization to the Technical Office at the Town Hall immediately to avoid further proceedings.
If any of our readers have received notices of municipal sanctions they are advised to take legal advice immediately.
The affected residents are planning to hold a public meeting and/or attend the meeting of the full Town Hall this Thursday at 8pm when the United Left party will be tabling a question on the mass issue of sanctions. As soon as we have more concrete information it will appear on this webpage.
