The Mayor of Calasparra, Jose Velez, travelled to Oviedo on November 29 to receive an award from the Unicef Committee for “Calasparra Friendly City for Children”.
After the ceremony he said: “This recognition values the commitment and effort of Calasparra Town Hall, which aims to put children and adolescents at the centre of our political agenda.”
The award recognizes the importance of applying, at a local level, a management model which focuses on the rights of the child. A model which favours internal and external coordination and promotes and generates realistic mechanisms for the participation of children and adolescents and includes a long term strategy for incorporating children into the politics and actions of local governments.
With this award Calasparra starts a process of learning and improvement to continue developing, together with different local factors, the politics and local initiatives which favour the application of the Convention of Children´s Rights.
