A week after Guardia Civil officers from Madrid searched the town hall with a warrant the Mayor of Caravaca, Domingo Aranda, told a press conference he would declare “voluntarily” before Court 6 in Murcia regarding the urbanization project in 2004: “in order to speed up the investigation, defend myself and discover the reason I am being investigated.”
The Mayor, accompanied by various other members of his government, announced that he had no intention of resigning because he had “full confidence in the truth and justice”
He insisted that the caution was “a formality” and that he “had not been required to declare.”
It was normal, he said, that an investigation should be opened following a complaint brought by the PSOE (Socialist Party). But, the Mayhor added, he did not understand why the Guardia Civil had “raided” the Town Hall instead of making a formal request for the documents required.
