The Mayor of Calasparra, Jose Velez, has joined other Mayors from North Murcia to urge the regional government to build the new road, which would link Jumilla with the Venta de Olivo, Calasparra and Caravaca, in 2018.
The RM-714 Cieza-Calasparra road is an accident blackspot and has been the scene of several mortal accidents.
The new road would reduce journey time from Calasparra to Cieza to less than 15 minutes and would obviate the curves and changes in camber which make the RM-714 so dangerous.
José Velez considers the new road “very necessary” and points out that the RM 714 has heavier traffic than many of the new roads in the region.
