MASSIVE DROP IN VOTE FOR THE PP IN CALASPARRA

The Partido Popular logged its worst result in the region of Murcia in the EU elections yesterday, Sunday, and in Calasparra its share of the vote dropped by well over 500 to 982 compared to 1,613 in 2009.
The rest of the vote in Calasparra was shared between the PSOE, Socialist Party, which govern locally, the United Left and Greens and the Union Progresivo and Democracia Party, which stands as an alternative to the two party system.
The PSOE logged 1,462 votes (compared to 1,833 in 2009); the United Left and Greens 224 (compared to 78 in 2009); and the PDyD Party 224 (compared to 192 in 2009).
Despite the poor showing the President of the PP, Mariano Rajoy, has announced he will try and negotiate the vice presidency of the European Parliament for the ex president of the regional Government, Ramón Luis Valcarcel.
Nationally the Partido Popular scraped a victory making Spain one of two countries, with Germany, which voted in a majority for the existing government. However, the massive showing by the smaller parties throughout Europe is a heavy blow for the current two party system.
All EU citizens were entitled to vote although some “errors” in the local electoral roll excluded some people from voting including the editor of this blog. If you had a similar experience please get in touch.
