A local police officer has been bitten on the arm by a suspect after stopping a car in a traffic control point.
Yesterday, local police stopped a vehicle in a routine traffic control but as they approached the car one of the passengers in the back seats opened the door and attempted to run away. The officers gave chase but when they attempted to arrest the suspect he resisted fiercely and bit one of the officers on his arm.
The vehicle was searched and a bag, which the suspect had thrown under the vehicle, was found to contain a white substance which later proved to be cocaine.
The same suspect had been stopped in a previous traffic control three days earlier and a police dog signalled he was carrying drugs. He had attempted to run away from the officers who caught him. A search revealed he was carrying 13 grammes of cocaine.
The suspect has appeared before magistrates on drugs charges and assaulting a police officer.
This is the second drugs arrest by local police in less than two weeks after they desmantled a retail sale of drugs in a betting bar in Calasparra when arrests were made.
