The local police and Calasparra Town Hall have launched a new project which aims to prevent crime and maintain the safety of residents.
The new Citizens´Crime Prevention Unit will foster relations with residents and particularly with vulnerable sectors of the community starting with meetings with parents and pupils, elderly people and the local chamber of chamber of commerce.
The main objective of these meetings will be to implant prevention plans through training: (Information + Prevention = Safety), directed at the most vulnerable residents.
The involvement of residents in the security of Calasparra is fundamental to the plan. For the Mayor of Calasparra, José Velez, “ crime prevention is a fundamental part of safety.” He stresses the special concern at the Town Hall about bullying in schools, violence in the classroom, robberies of elderly people and the consumption of drugs.
“We are going to do all that is necessary to attack and control these crimes and for this the assistance of residents is vital,” he says.
The objectives of the project are:
To hold meetings to ascertain the concerns of residents about safety and security and design prevention plans.
Where necessary residents should participate in the formation and execution of police operations and actions aimed at resolving social problems.
To implement plans and programmes to protect the most vulnerable.
To promote aspects of security of most interest to residents through the local media.
The active participation of residents as a guide for police activity in order to meet the needs of the community.
The local police have announced these dates for meetings:
March 6 at the Molinos Primary School. A talk aimed at pupils 9am to 11.30am; March 20 a talk aimed at the staff 4pm; and a talk for parents on March 27 at 5.15pm.
