A couple, trapped in their home by fire, were rescued due
to the rapid response and quick reactions of the local police in the
Reposaderas area of Calasparra just after midnight on Monday.
The couple were trapped in their home by a rapidly spreading fire and had taken
refuge in one of the bedrooms. In order to rescue the couple the local police
had to tear metal bars off the window of the room where the couple had fled.
The police received a telephone call for help from the couple at 12.30pm on
Monday morning and were on the scene of the fire, five kilometers from the
town, within minutes. The caller told the police they were trapped in the
building by flames and smoke, which made it impossible to escape.
When the police arrived they had to climb over the perimeter fence in order to
access the property before tearing the metal bars off the window and rescuing
the couple.
The cause of the fire, which apparently started in the fireplace, is under
investigation.
The couple were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
