The lnstitute Emilio Pérez Piñero has agreed to cut expenditure by a massive 15% this year as regional funding for education is slashed.
Speaking on local radio the headmaster, Alonso Salinas, said the school would have little more than 70,000 euros in regional funding, half of which would be spent electricitiy, gas and heating. The school has 700 pupils, four halls and 50 classrooms.
However, for the headmaster the cruelest cut of all is the school´s inability to pay teacher absences of more than 15 days. Pupils will miss clases and study hours will be lost as no substitute teachers can be engaged.
