The blaze on the Sierra de San Miguel yesterday evening was probably caused by a lightening strike during the flash storm which hit Calasparra.
Environmental Officers, two fire brigades and two helicopters were summoned to the fire at 6,19pm and had successfully extinguished the blase two hours later.
Firemen, forestry officers and a fire engine remained at the scene to monitor the area.
The Sierra was ravaged by fire in 2017 and the evidence of that blaze remains engraved on the hillside where all the trees on the sunny side and the point facing Calasparra were erased. The fire was caused by a suspeced arson attack.
The storm last night also caused a short electricity blackout in Calasparra town and surrounding areas, which also affected the Community Television Canals.
