LIFE+SEGURARIVERLINK VOLUNTEERS CAMP IN CALASPARRA

More than 20 environmental volunteers from different parts of Spain are participating in a Work Camp organised by ANSE, the naturalists assocation, with the collaboration of the Director General of Youth and Sports, Calasparra Town Hall and the Segura Water Board.
On Thursday a local delegation, which included the Mayor, José Vélez; and the Water Commissioner, José Carlos González, plus technicians and other municipal representatives from Calasparra and Cieza, visited the camp.
The volunteers will be taking part in the European LIFE+SEGURARIVERLINK over the next 12 days, aimed at maintaining the forests and vegetation on the river banks, and studying the wildlife in the river Segura, including dragon flies, birds, otters, turtles and the nocturnal bats.
Part of the work will be clearing canes from the river banks to liberate natural species of trees and vegetation, and the restoration and maintenanceof footpaths.
There will also be time of leisure activitites including a descent of the river and a visit to the Fiestas of the Patron Saints in Calasparra.
