A new law to protect, give rights to and ensure the well being of animals which also changes the Penal System is currently being processed by the Council of Ministers.
The new law aims to secure the end of the ill treatment, killing and abandoning of animals.
It also guarantees the protection of animals by protecting their rights in law.
One of the prinicipal novelties of the law is to prohibit sacrificing pets except for health reasons or for euthanasia.
The law also bans collars with internal or external spikes and electrical collars which hurt or cause pets to suffer.
The sale of animals in pet shops is also banned and circuses with wild animals will be prohibited under the new law.
A register of animals will be created and the registration, identification and vaccination of animals will be obligatory.
