The footballer, María Hernández Martínez, could be facing her last season as the Football Federation for the Murcia región has changed the rules to prohibit mixed sex teams.
In a similar case in Ibiza the regional Parliament passed a unanimous motion to introduce an express legal regulation which permits women to compete in mixed teams beyond school age and in all the categories apart from the national team.
At the team´s last game on Saturday in Calasparra Maria received the support of her team, trainers and fans. She was also presented with a trophy from the Town Hall in her role as goalkeeper for the Junior Team.
Maria is the only female footballer to play for the team and is hoping the regional government of Murcia will take measures to enable her to continue playing next season.
