Ricardo García, of the United Left and Greens, now in charge of citizen participation at the Town Hall, has announced the beginning of the programme to set in place procedures for residents to play an active part in local politics.
The move was passed unanimously at the recent full meeting of the Town Hall.
He says: “ This is a new instrument to enable residents to participate in a constant and active form in municipal politics.”
The full programme starts in November. Until then residents can consult and comment on the new rules which consists of four fundamental parts and covers, among other matters, residents rights; encouraging residents to participate; local referendums,; and the creation of organisations and committees for effective participation.
Ricardo García, has said that the new rule is the fruit of a consensus and is ambitous. “It will reach the maximum amount of people posible and make people feel as though they have a part to play in local decision making,” he adds.
