The CCOO and the UGT unions have announced that workers at ITV stations in the region will strike from Monday as a protest against plans by the regional government to privatize the service.
At a General Assembly of the unions this week the following strike days were announced: October 2, 9, 13, 16, 18, 20, 23, 25, 27 and 28.
Following the defeat of a motion at the Regional Government Assembly to expand the ITV service to 18 centres in the region, introducing private concessionary centres, the national norm, which implies greater liberalization of the service, comes into effect.
Consequently, the Department of Employment, Universities and Businesses has announced a consultation process on the new decree.
However, the unions consider that the new regulation is privatization by the back door and defend a “rigorous, quality public service;” jobs and work conditions; and environmental and safety safeguards.

Before going to a regional ITV station on the announced strike days readers are advised to check whether they are joining this industrial action.
