INTENSE FIESTA PROGRAMME DESPITE FINANCIAL CRISIS

Austere but intense, this is how the Mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro, has described the programme for the September Rice Fiestas which officially begin tomorrow.
The Mayor was speaking at the presentation of the Calasparra Fiestas in Murcia yesterday where he was accompanied by several members of the Town Hall.
The head of the Fiestas, José Velez, said from September 1 to 8 Calasparra would become the “ hostess of the region” with the bull fighting festival, the religious celebrations of the Pilgrimage to the Sanctuary and the special concert programme.
“A fiesta with something for every age group and every taste,” he commented, “with an intense programme despite the financial current difficulties.”
He added that year on year the “encierros” (bull running) attracted thousands of spectators from all over the region and announced that a security force of 200 would be present along the 800 metres from the corals at the bottom of Calle Mayor to the Bull Ring to ensure the safety of the crowds.
Readers are reminded to arrive early for the bull runs in order to secure a safe, good view. The security staff are present to ensure your safety, please listen to their advice. Small children are not allowed to sit on the barriers and the barriers outside the Bull Ring gates are reserved for the runners. Please ensure you are safely on the higher part of the barriers when the starter gun sounds. Do not descend the barriers for any reason until the signal sounds for the end of the bull run or until the security staff indicate it is safe to do so.
The translation of the full fiesta programme appears on this webpage in the Local News and the Information sections.
We wish all our readers a happy and enjoyable fiesta!
