INCREASE IN RUBBISH CHARGES APPROVED LAST YEAR

The doubling of rubbish collection charges has come as a surprise to the residents of Calasparra as the move, apparently approved last year, was not published on Radio Calasparra nor on the municipal webpage.
After the price hike was reported to Nexonr we clarified the situation with the leader of the United Left, Ricardo Garcia, who said the increase “had been imposed on the Town Hall by the regional government.”
He also pointed out that this was the first increase in rubbish collection charges for nearly 15 years.
Private residents now pay 15 euros a household compared to 7.81 euros previously. However, the bars and businesses are bearing the brunt of the increase as up until last year they paid the same price as private residents. However, under the new pricing commercial outlets now pay some three or four times the previous amount.
The United Left told Nexonr they were committed to more transparency in local government and have pledged to start a website carrying information that affects local residents. The party also proposes to hold meetings on the Tierra del Sol, with an interpreter and Internet Access, in order to hear complaints and suggestions from residents.
The information about the rise in rubbish collection prices was carried by the official government website BORN last year. However, this site is in Spanish and is not easily
accessible.
