The work on the old public car park, on the site of the former Indoor Market in central Calasparra, started this week and is expected to be finished by Christmas.
Improvements to the car park were included in the election manifesto of all three parties given that the ground was full of holes and bumps making parking very difficult.
It is not clear whether parking will continue to be free after the works have been completed.
