With the official arrival of autumn this week the Met Office has announced that this summer was the hottest in the region for 75 years with temperatures 1.3 degrees centigrade higher than usual.
Although temperatures were normal during June, July was “extremely hot,” says the Met Office, and August “was even hotter,and humid” with rainfall, over the two months, an average of 27.6 litres per square metre.
During the three months from June to July some 3,500 rays of lightening were reported.
