Owners of the stables next to the Sultan Cooperative, which practically burnt to the ground in a devastating fire last night, have issued an emotional thank you to neighbours who helped evacuate their horses.
The owners say thanks to the spontaneous assistance of Calasparra residents all the animals were safely evacuated plus all the carriages and materials stored at the stables were saved.
This morning smoke was still rising from the burned out building as Calasparra mourns the loss of another cooperative and the jobs it provided.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
The Sultan Cooperative stood next to the stables on the right hand side of the road going out of Calasparra towards the roundabout for Valentin and Caravaca, further along than the Consum supermarket.
