This October was the fourth hottest since records began in 1941 with an average temperature of 19.7 degrees centigrade.
October 2014 is up there with last year´s record average of 20.3 degrees; 1967 with 19.9 degrees; and 2006 with 19.8 degrees.
The Met office also confirmed last month was among the top nine for record rainfall registering 13 litres per square metre. There were eight stormy days, notably the second and the fifth, with a total of 773 rays of lightening.
