FOOTBRIDGE A CROSS THE ALMADENES CANON OPEN TO WALKERS

Today, the new footbridge at the Mulata Damn in the Almadenes Canyon was officially opened by representatives of Calasparra and Cehegin Town Halls.
The two local authorities signed an agreement with Ibredrola in 2019 to adapt the footbridge and so complete the walking route around the canyon around the river Segura in order to boost tourism in the area.
The Mayoress of Calasparra, Teresa Garcia, and the Mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, and various councillors from both areas, visited the new footbridge accompanied by the Institutional Delegate of Ibredrola, Patricia Valverde, and a representative of the Mediterranean Generation of the company, Javier Lopez Nieto.
The footbridge, higher and with a wider space between the pillars than the previous one, also improves safety at the damn during extreme weather such as torrential rain.
The difficulty of access for the construction work has involved a helicopter and two cranes.
The footbridge is 95 metres long and almost two metres wide. It is 3.8 metres high above the damn. Some 59 tons of steel and 170 metres of anchorage was used to complete the project.
