The Department of Health has announced that statistics for flu victims, from January 5 to 11, in the Murcia region, show the illness reached epidemic proportions.
The 661 reported cases during this period is three times more than the previous week and numbers are expected to increase.during January. The majority of the cases are being treated without hospital admission.
Nationally there are currently 88.90 cases of flu per 100,000 inhabitants, however, in some regions, including Murcia, the numbers reported are considerably higher.
Some 63% of the flu victims in the region have not received their flu jab and now the Department of Health is calling all residents who are vulnerable, disabled or long term sick and those over 65 years old to go to their local Health Centre to be vaccinated.
Symptoms include a sudden very high temperatura of more than 39 degrees centigrade.
