The increase in cases of Covid has led to the Department of Health bringing forward the flu and fifth dose of the Covid vaccination campaign to the end of September for elderly and vulnerable residents.
Vaccinations will begin will in the last week of September for the over 60´s, pregnant women, health staff and people with conditions of risk.
The decision coincides with a slight rise in the number of Coid contagions from 53.6 to every 100,000 head of population to 130 in the larest report. In the Murcia region there was a 32% increase in cases compared to the previous week.
The current strains of the virus are reported to be more contagious but are generally considered to be «light» and there has been no increase in the number of hospitilizations. However, like flu, the Covid virs may cause complications for the over 60´s and vulnerable groups.
The flu and Covid vaccination campaign normally starts in October.
