Five men, including three Calasparrians, have been arrested in a local property allegedly used as the base for a criminal gang which used false prescriptions to buy pschytrophic drug, Rubifen.
The operation “Afonia” mounted by the regional by the Guardia Civil started in March this year when the regional Service for the Inspection of National Health Prescriptions discovered numerous prescriptions in different chemists with the same control numbers and references and for the same medication.
The Guardia Civil then began an operation to investigate the duplicate presciptions and their investigations took them to a house in Calasparra, allegedly used as a the gang´s headquarters. After the Guardia Civil mounted a watch on the premises three local men were arrested and some 30 false prescriptions were found.
The local police assisted with a full search of the premises where the alleged head of the gang was arrested with another man. Thirty more empty prescriptions were found and eight already filled out for the drug, Rubifen.
The men have been arrested in connection with twenty cases of obtaining drugs with false prescriptions and have appeared before magistrates in Caravaca.
Rubifen is a pschytrophic drug, containing Metilfedinato as the main component, normally prescribed for treating psychological conditions such as hyperactivity and attention deficiciency. It is a controlled drub available only on prescription.
