FIRST EXCAVATIONS DATE SITE TO V OR VII AD

The first phase of the excavations on the «Cerro de la Virgin» archeological site near the Sanctuary in Calasparra centres on carefully cleaning the ruins of a large building and cataloguing every discovery.
Archeologists believe these first discoveries confirm the site is «Argaric» or Iberic and dates back to V or VII century AD.
The «Agaric» culture is a set of populations that settled in the south east area of the Iberic Peninsula between 2300 AD and 1500 AD, occupying terrains that today make up the provinces of Alicante, Murcia, Jaen and Granada.
The photo, by local news webpage CalasparraAlDia, shows volunteers and students working on the site under the supervision of archeologists.
