Local fire fighters were called out to a fire on agricultural land near the river, which was burning out of control, yesterday, Monday.
The alarm was raised by an off duty forestry officer who called the emergency services after seeing black smoke rising from the river Segura. The cracking of the burning canes could be heard all over the area.
The emergency call was received at 3.24pm yesterday and by 4.35pm fire fighters had extinguished the blaze in the El Salgar area of Calasparra, just beyond the road bridge in direction of Cieza.
