The fire in the Sierra del Puerto, Hellin, which spread rapidly to the frontier with Calasparra, has been controlled but not extinguished.
Forestry Brigades from Castilla la Mancha were forced to withdraw from the Sierra in the early hours of this morning to fight a massive fire in Jumilla.
The Jumilla fire, which started in the Patoja area, has already spread along a perimeter of 11.8 kilometres and the National Defence Force, (UME) has been called in to support the fire fighters who were losing the battle against strong winds.
The UME arrived at 6pm this evening with 134 fire fighters and 44 air and land vehicles. Some 180 fire fighters and 14 emergency air support vehicles were already on the scene.
Local residents have also provided numerous agricultural vehicles to help fight the blaze.
The fire has already devastated 400 hectares: 220 hectares in Castilla de Mancha and 180 hectares in the Murcia region and remains out of control.
