It never rains in Calasparra. This is probably the most common phrase in
the history of Calasparra.
Yet over the last 4 hours some 25 litres of water has fallen per square metre:
30 litres in the past 24 hours.
And if we feel like complaining, we shouldn´t.
Firstly, we desperately need the rain to fill the dwindling water reserves in
the reservoirs, Argos and Cenajo, and secondly: “ Have you seen what is happening
in other parts of Murcia, Valencia and Alicante?
Poor Los Alcazares is flooded again. San Javier has been flooded and Yecla is snowed
under. Many roads in the region are blocked by snow or flooded.
In Valencia and Alicante beaches have been swept away by heavy seas, which have
also flooded seafront shops and businesses.
Strong winds have taken out electricity pylons leaving thousands without power
and trees have been uprooted.
Three people have already died due to this latest weather front.
The rain in Calasparra is due to last through tomorrow but who knows? Thursday
should be a drier day.
