FINAL MARATHON RUNNERS GET A SOAKING

The last of the 200 runners in the 12th Mountain Half Marathon “Memorial Antonio de Béjar” held on Saturday crossed the finish line under an impressive downpour when 4.5 litres of rain per square metre fell in just a few minutes.
Club Alpino and the Town Hall organised the new edition of the half marathon, a pioneer event in the Murcia region, which, this year, was permanently marked out with 52 signs along the 21 kilometre course.
The Head of the Tourist Office, Maria Dolores Gomariz, joined the President of Club Alpino, Alonso Javier Lozano, the Director of the trial, Mario Jiménez, and the father of Antonio de Béjar, among others, to inaugurate the signposting of the course which will facilitate anyone, anytime, completing the run.
The winner on Saturday was Alberto Plazas, a runner from Las Torres de Cotillas,with a time of  1.26.42. In second place  was Miguel Ángel Cánovas (01.31.27) and third,  Manuel Paredes of UCAM (01.32.17).
Laura Rubio, of Trialhama, won the women´s trials (01.51.31); second place went to Isabel Sandoval, of Simplemente Ruuners (01.56.17), and third to Pilar Martínez (01.58.15).
There were 25 local runners including Cristofer Corbalán Navarro (01.40.48) who crossed the line in 10th place and was the first Calasparrian.  Conchi Zapata Aparicio was the first local woman to cross the line (02.06.51)in 118th place.
