Calasparra Town Hall has received a favourable judgement in the Conservas Fernandez Canning Plant case, which could open the way for the plant to finally reopen.
The judge found that the Viabiloity Plan presented to the company´s administrators by Joaquín Navarro, owner de Conservas Fernández, was “totally false and was not economically sustainable” and that it was a “ploy to gain time while the workers, even now, were fighting for justice.”
The Town Hall brought the action in its capacity as one of the company´s creditors on the grounds that the plan agreed with Conservas Fernandez was not viable.
According to the Mayor of Calasparra, Jose Velez, this judgement could unblock the situation at the factory which could reopen if the owners do not appeal the decision.
“There are various companies interested in taking over the plant, some of whom have even presented a technical report,” says the Mayor.
