The Met Office have issued a weather warning for the first heatwave of the summer with temperatures in the forties.
The hot weather, with predicted temperatures of 44C, is expected to last for most of July and will begin this Wednesday/Thursday.
Experts are warning people to stay indoors, particularly in the hottest hours of the day: 12 midday to 6 or 7pm.
If there is essential work outside readers are advised to get up with the light, around 6.30am, and work until 10.30 or 11am. Keep covered up, always wear a hat and sunscreen (50+) and drink plenty of water. Catch up with your sleep during the traditional siesta.
Experts advise drinking plenty of water, avoiding alcohol and heavy meals.
If you have to go out take advantage of the coolest periods in the early morning or in the evening. Wear loose, light clothing, a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and carry plenty of water.
If you are exposed to the sun and feel unwell, drink plenty of water and go and see your GP or go to emergencies.
