The local police have detained several members of a family of gypsy origins who have been involved in fraudulently selling vehicles and machinery and extortion with threats of violence.
Although initially witnesses were reluctant to come forward finally five victims agreed to officially report cases of extortion with threats of violence which resulted in five members of the same family appearing before magistrates in Caravaca.
The local police say more arrests are possible.
Over the past few months the members of the family, who live locally, allegedly “sold” vehicles and machinery but failed to deliver the products when the buyer had paid the amount in full.
They also were allegedly involved in false drugs deals and intimidation the “buyers” it to hand over quantities of money with threats of violence.
Initially none of the victims interviewed by the police were prepared to come forward for fear of reprisals from the family concerned even though there were large amounts of money involved and the police were unable to arrest the alleged culprits. However, finally thanks to the courage of five witnesses five members of the same family were arrested on extortion charges with threats of violence and fraud. They have been detained.
