EXHIBITION FOR ONE OF OLDEST SHOPS IN CALASPARRA

The history of the 75th anniversary of the haberdashery shop in Calle Lavador, one of the oldest in Calasparra, opens in the Exhibition Hall in Calle Mayor on Saturday.
Known to various generations of Calasparrians as  “las Sebastianicas”, the shop has sold buttons, threads and cottons, corsetry and haberdashery for the past 75 years.
Conchi and Antonia Martínez Ruiz, known as “las Sebastianicas,” because their father was  “el Sebastianico”, opened the shop, just as the Civil War ended.
The shop still retains some its original features, including bevelled mirrors and a marble counter and has undergone many changes in it history. Today, Angelita Moya Martínez, niece of the pioneering women who defied the archetype of their day to open the shop.
The exhibition brings us closer to the legendary shop opened by the sisters, now deceased, Conchi and Antonia.  It has been organized by the family and the Head of the Department of Equality at the Town Hall to mark  International Women´s Day 2018.
The exhibition will be officially opened on Saturday March 3 at 8pm.
