It seems the announcement of the demise of San Javier airport was somewhat exaggerated as the airport authority, AENA, have opened a tendering process for businesses interested in opening a Duty Free Shop at the airport.
The contract for the shop lasts until 2020 so it seems commercial flights from the airport are likely to continue and its imminent closure, reported in the regional press, were premature.
Meanwhile “administrative and technical” delays continue at the new airport in Corvera which was supposed to open this summer. As yet there has been no new date announced for the opening.
