The regional Department of Health already owes in the region of 1.3 million euros to pensioners under the new prescription charge scheme which restricts monthly charges to eight euros with the surplus being refundable.
The scheme was introduced in July and has already reduced the total costs of prescriptions in the region by 24.12%, a saving of 7.3 million euros.
