The campaign to keep the public safe on the newly re-established river beach on the river Segura will include lifesavers and members of the Protection Civil from Monday to Sunday every morning and every afternoon during the summer.
The 9, 800,00 euro project, part of Plan Copla, was announced by the Head of Citizen Security, Antonio Merino today and will count on a Service Coordinator, lifesavers, qualified surveillance personnel with river aquatic training and river boats and white water technicians.
Equipment will include canoes and all the equipment for a river rescue and saving lives.
The project is part funded by the regional Department of Transparency, Participation and Public Administration (4,623.45 euros) and Calasparra Town Hall (5,176. 55 euros):
The river beach is near the under the road bridge (Calasparra – Venta Olivas) where a part of the river has been cleared and a safe bathing area established. An area of the bank has been reconditioned to provide a beach/picnic area.
This area has always been a popular resource for families in Calasparra during the summer but a series of swollen rivers had wiped away the original beach area.
