CUTTING CANES AND RECLAIMING THE RIVER BANKS

The canes that grow along the banks of the river Segura are an invasory species which prejudice the natural growth of indigenous plants and trees.
Now the European Project,  Life+ Ripisilvanatura, has signed an agreement with the Department of Water, Agriculture and the Environment and the Segura Water Board to erradicate canes from the banks in Morotalla, Cieza and Calasparra.
Restoring the river banks and halting the progress of invasory species is the principal aim of the agreement.
The project is cofinanced by Europe  and will cost 2.5million euros.
Another advantage of the project is fire prevention as many local fires start in the highly combustible canes.
